AWS S3 Bucket RMAN Backup

Info:

Download the Oracle Secure Backup Cloud Module for Amazon S3 http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/products/secure-backup/secure-backup-s3-484709.html?ssSourceSiteId=ocomen

Copy the osbws_install.zip to the linux server in /home/oracle/scripts and unzip it.

Before proceeding you will need your oracle OTN username and password (same as MOS), and your Amazon access key id and secret access key - This had to be done with the AWS super user i.e main account holder i.e aws@yourserver.com. These details can be retrieved by contacting Amazon.

There does seem to be a problem with creating a bucket with the Amazon access id's as the default behavior of Amazon is to create a bucket with the name of your account username i.e if username is aws@yourserver.com, the bucket will be called oracle-log-aws-1. The S3 buckets have to be unique in all of Amazon.

Setup:

Execute the installer supplying all the mandatory parameters in one line, each hyphen-preceded label followed by its value.

-AWSID: AWS Access Key ID
-AWSKey: AWS Secret Access Key

The credentials for Amazon Web Services. Mandatory.

-otnUser: OTN Username
-otnPass: OTN Password

The credentials for Oracle Technology Network, which the installer uses to identify the customer. Mandatory.

-walletDir: Directory to store wallet

The location for the Oracle Wallet used to store S3 credentials and proxy information (if specified, see below). Mandatory.

-configFile: File name of config file

The location where the configuration file will reside. If omitted, the installer will create the configuration file and place it in a default system-dependent location. Optional.

-libDir: Directory to store library

The location where the library will be placed. If this parameter is omitted, the installer does not download the library. Optional.

-libPlatform: The desired platform for the library

The install tool will usually be able to determine the correct platform automatically by examining the system where it is running.

The only reason to use this parameter is if the install tool complains that it can't identify your system (in which case you should also let Oracle know so we can fix the install tool), or if you need to download the library for use on a different system. In this version the supported values for the parameter are: linux32, linux64, windows32, windows64, solaris_sparc64

-Location: The Amazon S3 location where you wish to store your backups.

If not specified, your backups will be stored in the default location. See the Amazon S3 documentation for a list of valid values.

-debug: Provides additional debug information

Run the install:

cd /home/oracle/scripts
java -jar osbws_install.jar -AWSID AK***************** -AWSKey 4QXV************************ -otnUser anyname@yourserver.com -otnPass ********** -walletDir $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/osbws_wallet -configFile $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/osbswsdbd12c.ora -libDir $ORACLE_HOME/lib -debug

If you try to register a bucket that is already there you get the following error:

Test:

To configure RMAN in 11g, you must use the SBT_PARMS parameter for specifying environment variables.
